Dow Introduces Two New Products to Enhance the Performance of Waterborne Coatings

Date: 25/03/2020

Dow has launched two new products - a silicone resin emulsion and a defoamer additive - that provide simpler formulation and higher temperature resistance for waterbased industrial coatings.

DOWSIL 8016 Waterborne Resin: New generation silicone resin emulsion

DOWSIL 8016 Waterborne Resin is a new generation silicone resin emulsion for waterborne, high-temperature resistant coatings that offers a temperature resistance up to 500-600°C. It provides elevated coating hardness for metal substrates protection, ensuring low contribution to odour and emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It is suitable for air drying with appropriate condensation catalysts.

The resin achieves high paint performance and aesthetics without solvent or coalescent[1] , facilitating environmental compliance compared to traditional solvent-based formulations. The sustainable profile of the product and the low VOC emissions enable formulators to meet the increasingly stringent requirements. To present the specifics and demonstrate the perfromance of this new waterborne coating silicone resin, Dow has organized a dedicated webinar, hosted by Technical Support and Development Manager, Xavier Mollat Du Jourdin, on Wednesday April 22, 2020 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time. Interested people can register online.

DOWSIL107F Additive: New generation foam control agent

Dow also launched DOWSIL 107F Additive, a new generation foam control agent combining improved compatibility with optimal performance at low dosage in waterborne coatings. The additive is a formulated defoamer based on silicone polyether and hydrophobic silica, designed for formulations serving the architectural, wood, and metal coatings segments.

"We continue to combine our deep knowledge of silicone chemistry with our unique experience of water-based coating formulation, to bring innovations to the market that help our customers enhance the competitiveness of their formulations," said Isabelle Riff, marketing manager for silicone coatings. "We innovate to address strong market trends driving demand for high-performing, water-based formulations that respond to tighter environmental requirements." //[1] DOWSIL 8016 is solvent free, being manufactured without added solvent.//
