Autonomous Driving Now Has Silver Metallic Pigments

Date: 20/10/2020

Until now, conventional silver metallic paints have represented a challenge in the autonomous driving field where it is essential that paints have a high degree of transparency. However, ECKART has now launched on the market pigments for silver metallic color shades specifically for use in this sector.

The concept of autonomous driving has so far represented a challenge for paint and coatings manufacturers: vehicles must be able to reliably perceive their surroundings via sensors that are usually hidden from view. It is therefore essential that the paint is as transparent as possible for the frequently used radar beams. Conventional silver metallic paints in fact attenuate the radar waves more than allowed and thus lead to faulty sensor detection.

ECKART is the first effect pigment manufacturer to launch pigments for silver metallic color shades on the global OEM paint market, specifically for use in the autonomous driving industry. The innovative combination of selected ECKART metallic pigments with SYMIC OEM Opaque Silver allows paint manufacturers to develop attractive shades of silver for vehicles while ensuring the highest possible radar transparency.

Based on synthetic mica, the pigments of the SYMIC OEM Opaque Silver range are ideal for both colored metallic effect paints and brilliant silver shades.

The strengths of the encapsulated pigments are their simple processing in all common aqueous, solvent- and UV systems, the ideal intercoat adhesion and their extremely long durability.
